Status of Senate Bill 75
Senator Patton introduced Senate Bill 75 during the legislative session 2011. The bill was not voted out of committee and thus died at the end of 2011. There are no current plans for the bill to be reintroduced in 2012.
Last year, a similar bill (Senate Bill 236) was drafted and made it through two committee hearings, but did not get voted out of committee. Per Senate leadership, they wanted to allow the PUCO the chance to resolve the issue first. Ten CKAP members testified before the Senate committee on Energy and Public Utilities on May 18, 2010 in support of Senate Bill 236. The committee is chaired by Senator Widener. PUCO Chairman Alan Schriber and OCC Head Janine Migden-Ostrnader also provided testimony. Now that the PUCO has made its ruling, the Senate can evaluate the fairness of the ruling and decide if Senate Bill 75 would be a better solution.
