Beware of FES' New Counter Offer!
If you were previously on NOPEC/FES, after you switch to Duke Retail you will become FES’ new favorite customer and will receive letters, emails, and calls offering their "NEW" FES counter offer. Don't be fooled by their low up front pricing of 5.75 cents winter and 6.30 cents the rest of the year as FES' contract clearly states that additional pass through costs can be added, they have a $100 termination fee, and they can automatically keep re-enrolling you in their program. Remember that prior to Duke Retail entering the market, your FES "Best Offer" was 4% off the Standard winter rate. For example, for CEI, this would be 4% off 6.73 cents or 6.46 cents!
If you fall for FES’ counter offer trick and help them push Duke Retail out of the market, then FES will then be able to raise their generation prices back to where they were at (4% off, or 6.46 cents winter rate). Just to be clear, Duke Retail is contractually committed for this initial two year period, so there is absolutely no risk in signing up with them.
